I was watching this old episode of QI the other day. If you're not familiar with this show they have a different theme each episode. The theme of this particular episode was France, and I realised that they were assuming that the viewer had some understanding of French. 1. The Polish word for 'disabled' is 'niepełnosprawny' (not-fully-abled). Do the other languages follow the pattern of "some sort of negative prefix  + able(d)"?
A similar situation is in the case of 'niedosłyszący' (not-hearing-well is the closest approximation I can give) and 'niedowidzący' (not-seeing-well, see former) - the equivalents of 'hard- ( Read more... )
